Bellin College students donate over 300 items to Golden House

Participating in a local cause has become a mission to the Bellin Student Nurses Association (BSNA), at Bellin College. BSNA is a student organization that coordinates activities towards professional development and community involvement. For three years now, BSNA has organized a supplies drive to benefit either the Golden House or the Freedom House, alternating every other year.

This year, Golden House is their recipient for the annual supplies drive. The Golden House is a safe haven for domestic abuse victims by providing support programs and shelter. “We started doing the holiday supplies drive as a part of a “pay it forward” project we did at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College four years ago. We were touched by the gratitude we received from the Golden House and their clients. It’s rewarding to make an impact in someone else’s life and helping those in need,” said Taylor Schoenfeld and Amanda Lemke, Bellin College nursing students.

Golden House deliveryThe drive collected over 300 items to donate to the Golden House that ranged from household supplies, hygiene products, canned foods, to diapers. “The Golden House typically does not get a lot of items donated for the holiday season. To be able to supply everyday essentials to their clients is a great help,” said Cassandra Goldschmidt, Bellin College nursing student and BSNA president. For the 3rd annual supplies drive, the students created a contest between classes, faculty and staff. The winners of this year’s drive were the senior nursing students who will receive a pizza party courtesy of BSNA.
