A great way to continue your nursing education is with Bellin College’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. The program is fully accredited and prepares graduates with enhanced knowledge and practice expertise that builds and expands on baccalaureate nursing education to prepare nurses for advanced roles in nursing. Our program emphasizes the importance of life-long learning and provides a foundation for doctoral study.

MSN PROGRAM TRACKS:

  • The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track is available in full-time and part-time options and offers a combination of online, face-to-face, and hybrid classes that are delivered in a 15-week semester.
  • The Nurse Educator (NE) track is available in full-time and part-time options, and classes are 100% online, delivered in a 15-week semester.
  • NEW for FALL 2024! Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) track is available in full-time and part-time options, and classes are 100% online, delivered in a 15-week semester.

Family Nurse Practitioner Academic Plans

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track is a 47-credit program designed to prepare graduates to function as licensed independent practitioners in primary care. Students complete courses that focus on the provision of the full spectrum of healthcare services across a lifespan. Students learn to use advanced health assessment skills, screening, and diagnostic strategies, and prescriptive practices to manage the health/illness status of patients and families. Practicum experiences that total 680 hours are completed in a variety of primary care healthcare settings. Graduates are eligible to take American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and/or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Boards (AANPCB) family nurse practitioner certification exams.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program is offered as a specialty track in our MSN or DNP program and as a Post-Graduate Certificate program. All programs are offered online and can be completed full- or part-time. 

BSN-DNP (3 year full time/5 year part time)     BSN-MSN (2 year full time/3 year part time)

Our PHMNP program is founded on a holistic model of psychiatric-mental health care. Students learn to diagnose and treat simple and complex psychiatric and mental health problems across the lifespan, such as adjustment disorders to serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar illness, major depression, or anxiety disorders.

Graduates of our PMHNP program are prepared to:

  • Provide individual, group, couples, and/or family psychotherapy
  • Prescribe medication for acute and chronic illnesses
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments
  • Provide clinical supervision
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage chronic or acute mental health/psychiatric illness
  • Provide integrative therapy interventions
  • Order, perform, and interpret lab tests and other diagnostic studies
  • Provide preventative care, including screening and immunizations
  • Develop policies for programs and systems
  • Make referrals for health problems outside the PMHNP scope of practice
  • Perform procedures

Nurse Educator Academic Plans (Online Program)

The Nurse Educator track is a 39-credit program designed to prepare graduates for the nurse educator role across various academic and clinical settings. Students integrate core MSN coursework and education specialty courses that focus on evidence-based teaching and learning principles, curriculum development and evaluation, instructional design and technology, assessment of educational outcomes, and nurse educator role development. Students will integrate knowledge and skills into the educational and practice setting in a 255-hour practicum experience.

  • Preparation for successful integration to the NE role in academic and practice settings
