Hands on Healthcare
Attention High School Teachers and Counselors!
Hands on Health Care
Bellin College, in partnership with local high schools, has created a one day experience in our Health Sciences Resource Center (HSRC) called Hands on Healthcare. Students spend the day rotating through stations practicing skills and techniques guided by Bellin College students, faculty and healthcare professionals. This immersive, hands on experience promotes the advantages and benefits of pursuing a high demand career in healthcare using state-of-the-art technology.
A day on campus includes rotations through various stations exposing students to:
- Physical Therapy
- Virtual anatomy exploration
- Operating Room/sterile technique
- Maternity/newborn care
- Trauma/Emergency Room simulation
- Nursing care in a simulated environment
The future vision of hands on healthcare is to continue to grow and expand. We are mobilizing the event to take it on the road to high schools in Northeast Wisconsin. This way they don’t always have to come to us and will give us the opportunity to impact more students. We would be able to serve up to 200 students in a gymnasium opposed to the 40 students we are able to serve on our campus. If you are interested in this experience, please fill out the Mobile Hands on Healthcare Form.
Local high schools that have participated in the Hands on Healthcare experience:
- Bark River
- De Pere
- Notre Dame
- West De Pere
Exposing students to these types of experiences provides them with the opportunity to learn more about well paying, high demand careers. Employment in the healthcare industry is expected to add 2.3 million new jobs nationally over the next 10 years.
