Bellin College Spring Commencement Ceremony
Bellin College held its annual spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 9 a.m. at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on UW-Green Bay’s campus. One hundred twenty-nine Bellin College graduates received their degrees from the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (BSRS) programs. Bellin College president and CEO, Dr. Connie Boerst, presided over the ceremony. The Leona Waraksa commencement address was given by the honorable Reid J. Ribble, former U.S. Representative, Wisconsin, 8th District. The student speakers were Hannah Hargis, BSN; Kiera Ullman, BSRS; and Tammy Marie Marshall, MSN. The alumni speaker was Donna Zelazoski, class of 1969.
Here are a few facts about the Class of 2017:
Of the undergraduate students, six are men and 107 are women. The average age is 26; the youngest is 20 and the oldest is 49. Forty-three percent are from Brown County. Fifteen percent of the students attended courses at UW-Green Bay and 21% attended courses at St. Norbert College through our education partnerships. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing class includes 17 graduates from the RN to BSN completion program done in partnership with Bellin Health. The MSN graduating class includes 50% of graduates who earned their BSN degree from Bellin College.
The College awarded two awards during commencement. Each year a faculty member is recognized for their outstanding service to the College through the generosity of Dr. Hiro Nishioka and his family. This year’s recipient of the Nishioka Family Faculty Award for Excellence was Kathie DeMuth, MSN. The Lucyanna Hitch Award for Excellence is a tribute that recognizes one student from the graduating class who best exemplifies Bellin College’s values of integrity, community, caring, and excellence. The Lucyanna Hitch Award was awarded to Andrea O’Bright, BSN.
