Tim Wilmet Memorial Scholarship

Tim Wilmet  Tim Wilmet

APPLICATION FOR 2024 IS CLOSED

Deadline to apply is March 31, 2024

Tim Wilmet, a Bellin MRI department employee, passed away on Nov. 22, 2016. This scholarship has been established at the Bellin Health Foundation by his wife, Jody, his daughter Lauren, and his son Christopher; along with family and friends. Its goal is to support educational scholarships for Bellin College Radiologic Sciences students.

Tim’s Story

Tim graduated from the Bellin School of X-ray Technology in 1977. He became a Bellin Imaging department employee and was promoted to section leader within a few years. In 1987, Northeast Wisconsin MRI Center (NEW MRI) was established, and Tim became the very first MRI technologist north of Milwaukee and Madison.

For 15 years, NEW MRI was the sole provider of MRI services in the greater Green Bay area, and Tim was overseeing sites on the Bellin Hospital campus, the Bellevue campus and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital campus. He hired and trained many of the MRI technologists working at Bellin today. In 2007, as the NEW MRI Center manager, Tim was instrumental in bringing the first high-field open MRI to Green Bay — one of the first scanners of its kind in the United States.

When NEW MRI was dissolved in 2013, Tim returned to Bellin. He was known for being patient-centric and respectful. Tim loved working with patients and colleagues and had a passion for new technology. He always tried to personally connect with his patients, and many of them asked for him by name when making future appointments.

Tim was a great teacher to not only the new technologists he hired throughout the years, but also to students. He relished any opportunity to introduce Bellin College students to MRI, particularly those senior students on their MRI rotations.

The Tim Wilmet Scholarship will not only keep his memory alive but will also continue Tim’s work — teaching and giving the next generation of diagnostic medical imagers an opportunity to pursue an exciting career path.
